The True Origin of the Word

Everything I have been studying lately has taken me back to two very basic and foundational truths:

“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man (or woman) of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”  2 Timothy 3: 16, 17

“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12

But…and this is the most important thing I have learned…it is not effective in your life unless you first, know it, and then, use it. What has God said? Look in the Word. Has He spoken something to your heart? Does it line up with the Word? How do you apply this to your life? Speak the truth; pray the truth; embrace the truth; and use the truth to contradict anything that seems to oppose what God has said! Do you believe it? Then live like you believe it!

As this all was really being driven deep in my spirit, I knew it was the answer to so many questions I had about prayer.  When you know the Word, and have “rightly divided” the Word to gain the true meaning of it, then that is the will of God concerning the matter. Pray it!

The Lord also dropped something else in my mind this week…the word etymology. It just seemed to show up everywhere. Just wouldn’t go away. Because I am a lover of words and have always been fascinated by learning new ones, I started doing a little research. Here is the definition:

The study of the origin of words. The etymology of a word is its linguistic history. The word etymology comes from the Ancient Greek language. It is composed of two parts: the Greek word etymon, which means “the true sense of a word”, combined with the Greek element logia, which means “doctrine, study.” Combining these two parts gives us “the study of the true sense of words.” Then the meaning of etymology is the study of the true origin and meaning of words.

So to bring this to a spiritual understanding…God is the origin of the Word; and rightly dividing the Word, by studying and gaining the true sense of THE WORD (knowledge, understanding) with the help of the Holy Spirit, we can then use or apply the Word (wisdom.)  Spiritual, or Biblical, Etymology.

I guess that makes me an Etymologist! I have dedicated my heart to seek the ORIGIN of the Word; gain the understanding of His TRUTH; and practice it in my life…so I am an Etymologist. I love it …and you want to know something else…I think it pleases God that I am…and that is the most important thing about doing all this…to be pleasing to Him!
